Fusion 1 Mission

The First Mission to Unlock Lunar Helium-3

Our Vision

Fusion 1 will conduct the first systematic survey of an operational area of Mare Tranquillitatis, directly sampling and analyzing lunar regolith to characterize Helium-3 resources.

Over a year-long traverse, Fusion 1 will:

Together, these objectives will deliver the first decision-quality knowledge enabling development of lunar Helium-3 resources.

Our Team

Black Moon Energy provides commercial leadership in large scale resource management projects, spaceflight experience, resource processing and geologic/geophysical assessment.

JPL contributes unmatched expertise in designing, delivering, and operating long-duration robotic systems in extreme environments. With proven heritage in integrated payload development and operations, rover autonomy and robustness, JPL ensures Fusion 1 is both technically credible and operationally achievable.

Caltech provides scientific leadership through advanced instrument development and data interpretation. By innovating methods for in-situ measurement and volatile analysis, Caltech enables Fusion 1 to deliver rigorously validated findings that will inform future extraction strategies.

Our Technology

The Fusion 1 rover platform, developed by JPL, is designed for long-range, long-duration exploration of the lunar surface. Its capabilities include:

Solar and power systems

Engineered for continuous daytime operations and night survival.

Autonomous navigation and robust mobility system

Enabling safe and efficient traverses across varied terrain.

Thermal design

Optimized
to maintain function through extreme lunar temperature swings.

Scientific payload

Integrated mass spectrometers and other instrumentation to precisely detect and map Helium-3 concentrations.

These technologies together enable Fusion 1 to operate at scale and deliver the first comprehensive resource assessment of Helium-3 on the Moon.
